morning devotions at the Flags of the in the center of Campus

We gather at 6 a.m. each morning to start our day with devotions in the center of the flag poles for the nations.   Below the tent covers is a tile pond and fountain under construction.  Audrey from England, leads this gathering time.

This last weekend on Kona we drove to the Hilo side of the island to spend the weekend with Al’s brother in Pahoa.

Last night at our Sunday Mission Builders team gathering … they surprised us with an anniversary celebration with brownies and ice cream.  One of the ladies on staff at U of N made us each a special tea leaf lea and a gave us a copy of the Hawaiian wedding prayer.  Then different ones prayed for us individually in their own languages.  It was so incredible to hear their prayers  …. That alone is a priceless gift and one that we will always cherish.

Tropic paradise you think how wonderful, however, landing near Kailua Kona is a bit like landing in the middle of Idaho’s craters of the moon. ….. lava, lava, lava and more lava.   Kailua is like a palm tree and boganvea oasis in the midst of blackened lava as far as the eye can see.   A Mission Builder named Ron from Michigan met us at the airport ….. returning  us to the campus of University of Nations Kona.  A quick lunch then tour of the areas we would be working.  Checking into our room where all the Missions Builders stay while working on campus.  The Missions Builders do all the things that maintain and expand the campus and allows the staff to focus on the students.  meeting so many faces …. Canadians, Swiss, Norwegen, Danish, Australians, Korea,  Brazilian, Figian, English, German, Michigan, California, Teenagers out of high school, young couples traveling the world, singles, seniors, assignments, dinner and an evening with a roomful of Missions builders of all descriptions  in the common area next to our room …….. now tomorrow our work begins early at 5 AM ………

Our first full day of challenge began at 5 a.m. off to breakfast at 6 a.m. first assignment 7 a.m. food and prep preparing pizza for the noon mean ….. Al stays with the kitchen staff …. at 9 a.m. we meet at the library to get our official campus badges and ID.  Really feel like we belong now.  9:30 I head to the go center to meet up with my team of girls to prepare the rooms for guest.  … then we head off to the construction team with the new building and paint doors till lunch …. a relaxing lunch … then back to the paint until 3.  We close down and head back to our rooms to clean up for a 5 pm supper.  6 is mandatory gathering service for everyone on campus.  David Dawson, Joy Dawson’s son spoke along with korean interpreturers.  Back home ready to end our day but not before this entry is complete.

Hawaii is great >>>> our days are very busy.    Our morning begins with all the mission builders gathering around the fountain that is surrounded by 38 different flags that represents all the nations that attend wyam.  A time of quick devotions and prayer before we head off to breakfast.  We also pray going into our work assignments and at the closing of our days assignments. 
 
Met a student today from Mongolia.  I love the diversity of peoples nations and ages.  The fun part of my day was wiping wet trays in the lunch food line telling everyone that this was “Happy Wednesday Day” and that they had won a dry tray with a free napkin.  It seemed to open the door to met a few of the students including the young Mongolian student.  She is the only one from that area.  Her English is very good. My assignment has shifted to doing different things in the kitchen from preping, cleaning, serving. putting out and putting away.
